Scouting Report
Perfect Game

333. Nick Iverson, rhp, Central Arizona (JC)
R-R, 6-1/170, Oakville, Ont.
Previously Drafted: Never Drafted
College Commitment: Gonzaga

One of the top junior college arms in the country this season, Iverson went 8-3 with a 2.35 ERA across 76 2/3 innings, striking out 91 and doing a fair job of limiting his walks. He’s a bit on the smaller end in terms of righthanded starting pitchers, but he has solid present stuff, does a good job of throwing strikes and does project some in terms of physicality. He usually lives in the 90-93 mph range with his fastball and the pitch features significant late life. His slider has shown average in the past but doesn’t live there, and he also works in more of a curveball look as well as a changeup, although both pitches will continue to need work and repetitions for them to be more effective offerings. There is legitimate upside here but most scouts feel he could be best suited for the bullpen long term.

2018 season, sophomore year at Central Arizona: 8-3, 2.35 in 13 starts, 35 walks and 91 strikeouts in 76 2/3 innings ... Tagged for nine runs -- six earned -- on 13 hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings facing Arizona Western ... Allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits and four walks, while striking out eight in loss to Yavapai ... Six scoreless in win over Chandler-Gilbert allowing four hits and three walks as he fanned seven ... Seven innings against Pima giving up one unearned run on three hits, while walking three and striking out eight ... Pitched seven innings in win over GateWay allowing one run on four hits and three walks, striking out nine ... Picked up win against Glendale working 6 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits and four runs -- three earned -- while walking one and striking out seven.... Allowed four runs in five innings on nine hits and two walks, while striking out five runs in loss to Eastern Arizona .... Worked seven innings allowing two runs on six hits and two walks, while fanning nine in win over Yapavai ... Went 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and allowed only run of the game -- first run he has allowed -- in loss to Arizona Western, walking one and struck out seven ... Pitched five scoreless innings, scattering three hits and only a walk against El Paso, striking out eight in the blowout win... Worked five scoreless in a 5-0 win over Gateway Geckos, as he walked two and fanned six ... Pitched four scoreless and hitless innings against the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes while walking four and striking out seven in season opener.

What they are saying: “Was up to 97 in his first outing, second time 94. Next time we saw him he was 92 pitched extremely well with a really good breaking ball with a lot of ground balls.”

“Hit 96 MPH in his second outing this spring, plus slider.”

2017 season, freshman year at Central Arizona: Pitching out of the bullpen he was 4-3 with two saves and a 3,04 ERA, walking 14 and striking out 40 in 47 1/3 innings in 24 games.

2015 season: Perfect Game team at WWBA World Championship pitched five scoreless allowing one walk, while striking out two

Honours 2016: Perfect Game Pre-Season All-American ... Rawlings-Perfect Game Canada/Puerto Rico All Region 1st Team ... 2015: Perfect Game All-Tournament team (five scoreless, one walk, two strike outs) at WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla.

Scouting Reports

Perfect Game fall, 2017: Hit 92-93 MPH in fall ball and sat comfortably at 89-91 MPH. He has plus slider and changeup.

Perfect Game World Championship fall of 2015: Pitched very well against a quality Chicago Scouts Association lineup, and the uncommitted right-hander has a lean build with very long limbs that bodes well for future projection in his 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame. While he’s a bit narrow, he should have room to continue filling out. He ran his fastball up to 89 mph in the first inning before settling in the 85-87 mph range. He also flashed some feel for a low-70s curveball, mid-70s slider, and upper-70s changeup, all of which could use further refinement but were located for strikes at various times throughout his outing. He’ll be an interesting arm to monitor in the coming months.

Doug Mathieson, coach of the Langley Blaze, observed RHP Nick Trogrlic-Iverson at a Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau camp in London Ont. in 2014. Trogrlic-Iverson was a shortstop then, but Mathieson saw his arm. He told Trogrlic-Iverson and his parents "you’re not a shortstop, you are a pitcher." He played on Matheison’s D-backs Scout Team in Arizona and Florida.
