What they are saying: “I’ve seen him strike out on a bad call and I’ve seen him boot one on a tough hop. You know what? There isn’t one ounce of sulk in him. He sits down and cheers down the other guys.” _ American League scout.

The most influential people in my life, besides my father (who goes by the same name) are: “My coaches Allen Cox, Tyler Hollick, Val Helldobler, Jeff Duda, Breton Gouthro and Bradley Mcinnins. They are the coaches that I work with the most. Tyler and Allen are my hitting coaches I probably spend the most time with them two. Val is my infield coach. Jeff is a pitching coach but he is always there for me during games and stuff. Breton and Bradley are the strength and conditioning coaches. They’re always there for me when I’m struggling with baseball related things or struggling with something in general. They’ve become more than coaches now they’re family.”

Scouting Reports

Baseball America

Cesar Valero, SS, Foothills Composite HS, Okotoks, Alb. (BA RANK: 380)

Source: HS • Ht: 6-2 • Wt: 186 • B-T: R-R • Commitment/Drafted: Oregon State

Extremely young for the class, Valero is a 6-foot-2, 186-pound shortstop who with current strength in a still-projectable frame. Scouts can dream on Valero’s body and bat speed, but he has plenty of refinement to do on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Valero can put a charge in the ball, but he’s a pull-heavy fastball only hitter who commits early and struggles to stay back on off-speed offerings. Defensively, he has average arm strength, but has struggled with his accuracy. His hands are decent, and good enough to give him a chance to stick at third base, but his footwork won’t work in the middle of the infield and some scouts think he’ll need to move to an outfield corner. Valero is committed to Oregon State.

Perfect Game

Valero is another young-for-the-grade, up the middle and physically projectable type of prospect who only played about half of the game in this look. He struck out in both of his at-bats, looking a bit uncomfortable against professional players in Extended Spring for the Astros. The team faced some live arms but Valero has a pretty good swing overall, remaining balanced with a big leg lift and a clean, easy swing plane. He made a solid play at shortstop where he ranged up the middle to spin and grab a hard hit ball. There a lot of intriguing pieces for Valero as a prospect and it’s not hard to imagine him being a significant name out of Oregon State, where he’s signed to play baseball at.

Cesar Valero is a 2019 SS-INF-OF with a 6-1 183 lb. frame from Calgary, AB who attends Foothills Composite. Very nice athletic broad shouldered build, good present strength with more to come. 6.91 runner, third base actions defensively, tends to stay back on the ball defensively, has good carry on his throws when his feet are set and comes over the top, has a quick and compact arm and gets rid of the ball quickly. Right handed hitter, straight stance, big barrel wrap to start his swing, aggressive shift into contact, long and strong swing with full extension, creates raw bat speed and is looking to drive the ball, may have to tone down his approach for higher level pitching but the raw bat speed and strength are there to hit. Good student, verbal commitment to Oregon State.

_ Perfect Game

Memorial Day East, 2017

JOBA had a good shortstop of their own. Cesear Valero (2019, Calgary, Alb.) demonstrated good bat control while still being aggressive to the ball. From a narrow stance, Valero has a large stride to help generate power. He pitched as well, getting as high as 78 mph with his fastball. He threw his 12-to-6 curve for strikes consistently in order to steal strikes early and get pop ups later in at bats. Already committed to Oregon State, Valero is certainly one to keep an eye on.
