Welcome to Biggar: The sign you see upon entering Biggar, Sask. (Pop: 2,161 in 2011) reads “New York is big, but this is Biggar.”

Possible future sign Underneath “New York is big but this is Biggar” ... will it some day read “Home of Big Garrett Hawkins.”

G-Hawk is the man’s nickname: “Garrett is an outstanding young man and very deserving of this opportunity. He and pitching coach Wayne Corness sat down this off season and really had an honest talk about the need to improve his secondary stuff if he wanted to have a  legitimate shot at pro ball. This has been a tough couple of years here at UBC with basically two lost seasons in a row; but Garrett never got discouraged and kept working on his body and his game. He  worked his tail off  and was finally rewarded by being drafted by Padres. The Padres are getting a soft spoken, but very confident and highly competitive kid that will never rest until he becomes the best version of himself. We are very proud of Garrett here at UBC and looking forward to watching him climb the ranks in the Padres organization.”
