It’s time for the third and final Naylor brother to come through the draft pipeline. Oldest brother Josh went No. 12 overall in 2015 and middle brother Bo went No. 29 in 2018. Whether Myles can make the Naylors just the second brother trio to all be first-round picks, joining the Drew siblings (OF J.D. Drew, selected fifth overall, to the St. Louis Cardinals, INF Stephen Drew, 15th, Arizona Diamondbacks and RHP Tim Drew, 28th, Cleveland) remains to be seen, though the Canadian prepster is definitely on radars after a solid summer, especially at the Area Code Games.

Many scouts see Naylor, the lone right-handed hitter among the brothers, as somewhere between Josh’s raw power and Bo’s pure hitting ability when they were coming out. The youngest Naylor has a good swing, showing both strength and bat speed to go along with good extension and follow-through. There’s raw power, particularly to his pull side, that has yet to show up in games and he can struggle with breaking stuff, leading to some swing-and-miss. There’s a little less polish here than there was with Josh and Bo in their draft years.

An average runner now who likely will slow down as he matures, Naylor has played shortstop in high school, but will move to third base at the next level, where his hands and strong arm should work just fine. The Texas Tech recruit is getting the chance this spring to really emerge from his brothers’ formidable shadows.

INF Myles Naylor

Notes: The Naylor household has produced plenty of baseball talent, with both Josh and Bo being selected in the first round out of high school in 2015 and 2018, respectively. Myles is the youngest brother of the trio, and perhaps uncompromisingly brings an impressive bat to the table. Josh had some of the most impressive power in his 2015 draft class, while Bo was viewed as one of the best pure hitters in 2018. Myles seems to fall right in the middle of the two, with both impressive bat speed and raw power, and a reputation as one of the better right handed hitters in the high school class. He showed impressive gap power at the 2022 Area Code Games and has the strength to drive extra-base hits even without flush contact but could improve his pitch recognition—with a tendency to get out in front and pull out on breaking stuff in particular. Naylor is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound infielder who has a chance to stick at third base, but ultimately could wind up as a corner outfielder. He’s a below average runner but appears to have the offensive chops to profile nicely even at the bottom of the defensive spectrum. Naylor is committed to Texas Tech and like most Canadian prospects is on the younger side for the class, not turning 18 until April 2023.

Naylor is a 2023 SS/2B/3B with a 6-2 195 lb. frame from Mississauga, Ont. who attends St Joan of Arc. Big and strong athletic build with room for even more strength. 6.72 runner in the 60. Moves well for his size and is light on his feet in the middle infield on defence, can make the athletic play, arm is loose and whippy front a higher slot, has the tools to stay on the grass moving forward. Right handed hitter, hits from a relaxed start, slightly open with a low back elbow load, short and compact swing that gets into slot early, good bat speed with solid line drive middle of the field contact. Different body type and tool set than his brothers but still lots of talent. Verbal commitment to Texas Tech.
