Tim Black did his job.
He did his job better than anyone else at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, Oak.
In fact, Black accomplished something no other starter had done at the championships.
RHP Black (Mount Hope, Ont.) struck out 16 as the North Iowa Trojans blanked Madison Wolfpack 2-0 on the strength of his NJCAA Div. II World Series single-game strikeout record performance.
The former Hamilton Cardinal was perfect for 7 1/3 innings. Madison ended Black’s perfect game, loading the bases with a pair of singles and a walk. Black induced an inning ending 6-4-3 double play.
“He was on tonight,” NIACC catcher Robert Swenson told the Globe Gazette. “The defense was tough behind him ... just an unbelievable effort by Tim.”
Black fanned lead-off man Danny Krause twice, No. 2 hitter Bryce Barsness three times, No. 3 hitter Ryan McShane once, clean-up hitter David Luciani twice, No. 5 hitter Nathan Pollock twice, seventh-place hitter Taylor Carlson twice, No. 8 hitter Greg Rhude one, ninth-place hitter Evan Richarz twice and pinch hitter Luke Syens once.

Black threw 120 pitches, including 85 strikes, breaking the record by striking out the third out in the ninth for his 16th.
Next North Iowa edged Murray State Aggies 7-6, then lost 7-3 to the Heartland Hawks and then Murray State eliminated North Iowa 8-3.
On the season ... Black was 6-3 with one save and a 1.88 ERA in 12 games, making 11 starts. He walked 23 and struck out 76 in 12 innings.
In all, 43 Canadians began the season with hopes of making it to Oklahoma.
Black was one of three on the roster of teams advancing.
The others
_ Austin Marcellus (Ingleside, Ont.) and J.D. Marks (Ottawa, Ont.) Lackawanna Falcons.
Marcellus was hitless leading off as the Grand Rapids Raiders eliminated Lackawanna by a 6-2 score.
Lackawanna lost its opened 4-3 to LSU-Eunice Bengals.
On the season ... Marks hit .261 with three doubles, a triple and 24 RBIs in 31 games, while Marcellus hit .212 with three doubles, a homer and seven RBIs in 21 games.
The LSU-Eunice Bengals won the title beating Murray State 8-0.
