There were 191 NAIA member schools fielding teams this spring.
And there is one champion.
This spring there were 174 Canadians on NAIA teams rosters.
And there was one champion:
RF Richie Seaton (Scarborough, Ont.) was the only Canuck celebrating as the Cumberland Bulldogs won the 58th annual Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Id.
And he drove in the first two runs of the game as Cumberland blanked the host Lewis-Clark Warriors 3-0 before 5,010 fans.
It was the third national title for Cumberland and coach Woody Hunt, as the Bulldogs claimed national titles in 2004 and 2010 along with a runner-up finish in 2006.
The Bulldog became only the first No. 10 seed to win the title since seeding was established in 2003.
A welcome home celebration for the national champs was held in Lebanon, Tenn. with a parade followed by a picnic at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium. You know a guy has been around a while -- and had some success -- when the ball yard is named after the coach.
The parade we assume followed the usual route -- The beginning on campus, north on South Tarver Avenue, east on West Main Street, circle the Public Square and return to campus.
