21U Women Invitational: The round-robin comes to an end

Ottawa, ON – Both semi-finals are now set in stone after three days of preliminary play in Halifax, NS. As the only remaining undefeated team, Québec earned a spot in the semis and will take on Nova Scotia while British Columbia and Ontario face off in the second medal round match-up.

British Columbia 15 Newfoundland & Labrador 5

British Columbia ran away with this one after a huge eight-run inning in the bottom of the fourth to break a 3-3 tie over three. Claire Eccles (White Rock, BC) and Devan Hanson (Pender Island, BC) both contributed offensively driving in two runs each. Andrea Turner (Mount Pearl, NL) doubled to drive in a run for Newfoundland in the losing effort. Starting pitcher Kensington Marie Renneberg (Kelowna, BC) picked up the win striking out two and allowing two runs over 2.1 innings.

Québec 17 Guyana 2

Six players had multi-RBI performances for Québec in the win including Noemie Lapointe (Laval, QC) who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kariane Codere’s (St. Hubert) two innings of no-hit baseball earned her the win on the scoresheet. Codere struck out four and walked one in the outing. Emily Ramshucit (Guyana) contributed offensively picking up an RBI in the top of the third.

Nova Scotia 7 Ontario 5

Nova Scotia slowly came back from a 4-0 deficit scoring seven runs. Raelea Nickerson (Lower Sackville, NS) doubled and tripled driving in a run to help fuel Nova Scotia’s offense in the win. Maria Roy (Hammounds Plains, NS) also contributed offensively going 3-for-4 with a double. Jillian Stymest (Kingston, NS) picked up the win after lasting six innings on the mound. Jessica MacPherson (Essex, ON) tripled and drove in a run for Ontario in the loss.
