OF Clayton Keyes was the fastest man in the building on scout day at the fourth annual Tournament 12 which began Thursday at the Rogers Centre.

“How quick were you Clayton?” veteran New York Mets scout Claude Pelletier asked Keyes after he had returned from his 60-yard dash on the green carpet.

“Was it 6.5? Or 6.4 or 6.3?”

Keyes laughed and said that he didn’t know his time for sure. The 12th Canadian selected in June, when Jamie Lehman of the Toronto Blue Jays chose him in the 17th round, Keyes chose to return to high school and will play again for the Canadian Junior National Team this season.

The Jake Paddle Pan-Am approved timing had Keyes, the Okotoks Dawgs speedster, clocked at 6.47. OF Kurt Dawkins (Ajax, Ont.) of the Ontario Blue Jays was next at 6.49.
