Dickerson celebrates Big Mac's 20th anniversary with 500 level homer

Happy anniversary to Big Mac.

San Diego Padres left fielder Alex Dickerson said so to his hitting coach with one swing of the bat in the ninth inning when he pulled a Bo Schultz into the fifth deck of the Rogers Centre Monday night.

The 452-foot drive came 20 years to the day that Oakland A’s Mark McGwire became the first in a regular season game to go fifth tank when he tagged a Huck Flener pitch 488 feet to left.

Of course, McGwire, now the Padres hitting coach, was not the first Bash Brother to homer into the fifth deck as Jose Canseco took a Mike Flanagan pitch 480 feet to left in the 1989 American League Championship Series.

Dickerson’s drive was the 19th homer into the 500 level and he became the 14th different player to do so.
