It wasn’t the best day for the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers, going 1-5 with two teams having a scheduled day off and one more getting rained out.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Daytona Tortugas 9
Thanks to a pair of home runs, Dunedin managed to score seven runs on only seven hits and three walks but they made three errors, leading to two unearned runs that proved to be the margin of victory for the Daytona Tortugas in a 9-7 loss. Ryan McBroom hit his 17th home run of the season, driving in two and Danny Jansen blasted his first for the D-Jays, driving in three and going 1/3.  L.B. Dantzler was 1/2 with two walks and two RBI while Gunnar Heidt was 1/5 with two stolen bases and two runs. D.J. Davis was 1/3 with a walk.

Luis Santos lasted just 3 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Jose Fernandez gave up the ninth run on one hit and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Brad Allen had his best outing in some time, going three innings without giving up a run, allowing just a hit and a walk and striking out four.

Lansing Lugnuts 7, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4
In their second win in a row over the TinCaps, the Lugnuts slammed out 12 hits in support of Jordan Romano but it was Starlyn Suriel who picked up the win. Romano went 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, two of which came on a home run. Romano only had four hits against with one walk and five strikeouts. Suriel allowed two hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout and Kirby Snead got his first pro save with two innings of one-run ball, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Four players had two hits for the Lugnuts: Andrew Guillotte (2/4, BB, 2 RBI, SB), John La Prise (2/4, BB, RBI, R, SB), Ryan Hissey (2/3, BB, 2 R) and Justin Atkinson (2/4, RBI, R). Ryan Metzler also hit a double and walked while Lane Thomas was 1/5 with a double, an RBI and a walk. Canadian Connor Panas was 1/4 with a triple and an RBI.

Player of the Game: Andrew Guillotte, John La Prise, Ryan Hissey and Justin Atkinson

Vancouver Canadians 3, Eugene Emeralds 4
The Canadians scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie up the game but the Eugene Emeralds, now with a 34-15 record, found a way to win, scoring in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 walkoff win against the Cs. Luis Sanchez walked five in his four innings of work and gave up six hits but that only turned into two runs for Eugene. Geno Encino relieved Sanchez with two runners on in the fifth and stranded both but allowed a run himself over two innings. Grayson Huffman provided two innings of relief, walking two and giving up a hit without allowing a run and Nick Hartman took the loss, giving up two hits in the ninth.

Cavan Biggio had two of the Canadians’ five hits and had the only RBI. Nash Knight was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Player of the Game: Cavan Biggio

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Princeton Rays 6
With young players in Rookie Ball, inconsistency is to be expected and Bluefield saw that from their starter, Yennsy Diaz (pronounced “Jennsy”) in the first game of their double header against the Princeton Rays. Diaz, who dominated Burlington in his last outing was hit hard in a 6-3 loss, allowing all six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks in just four innings. Stuart Holmes threw two scoreless innings, striking out two and giving up two hits to finish the game.

Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 2/3 with an RBI and a stolen base while Kalik May provided the rest of the club’s scoring with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, going 1/3.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Princeton Rays 11
If Game 1 of the double header was a rude awakening to Yennsy Diaz, Game 2 proved to be disheartening for the entire club. Andrew Deramo, a reliever, made a spot start, allowing eight runs on 11 hits (including two home runs) and a walk over two-plus innings. Brayden Bouchey allowed Deramo’s two inherited runners to score while giving up three of his own runs despite striking out six batters over three innings. Angel Alicea finished the game with a perfect ninth, getting two ground balls and a strikeout.

Bradley Jones had two hits including a double and Reggie Puritt was 1/3 with a double and a run. Lance Jones drove in a run, going 1/3 and stole two bases and scored.

Player of the Game: Bradley Jones

GCL Blue Jays, GCL Yankees East
Postponed due to rain.

DSL Blue Jays 0, DSL Orioles1 5
The DSL Blue Jays were blanked by the Orioles1 squad but it was just one inning that sunk their chances. Luis Mendoza got things started for the Blue Jays, allowing no runs through three innings despite walking four batters and giving up two hits, striking out two. Felix Cornelius got through his first inning but only managed to get one out in the fifth inning and was ultimately charged with four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks after leaving with the bases loaded in the fifth. Meliton Reyes came in and allowed all three runners to score and gave up an unearned run of his own but finished the game without incident the rest of the way, logging 3 2/3 innings with one unearned run allowed.

Luis De Los Santos had two hits while Yeison Estevez was 1/3 with a walk. Yhordegny Kelly took the Golden Sombrero, striking out four times.

Player of the Game: Luis De Los Santos
