Blue Jays from Away

In five completed games, the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers were 2-3 on Sunday, heading into the final week of the minor league season.


Buffalo Bisons 2, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5
The Bisons have lost seven of their last eight games and continue to wind down their disappointing 2016 season, losing their second straight game to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-2. Dalton Pompey was 1/4 with a double and Jesus Montero, hitting .318, was 2/3. Matt Dominguez was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI.

Mike Bolsinger allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks striking out eight over five innings and actually lowered his ERA to 7.97. Dustin Antolin fired two scoreless innings, giving up a hit while Matt Dermody gave up a run over an inning on two hits and a walk. Chris Smith made his Triple-A debut and the hard-throwing righty faced just three batters, striking out two.

Player of the Game: Jesus Montero and Matt Dominguez

Roster Notes: Chris Leroux was released and Chris Smith was promoted from New Hampshire.

 
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Reading Fightin Phils 7
Despite a late comeback that featured home runs in the seventh inning from Emilio Guerrero and Rowdy Tellez, the Fisher Cats lost to the Reading Fightin Phils 7-6 on Sunday. Guerrero was 2/4 on the day with three RBI and two runs while Ian Parmley also had two hits including a triple and drove in a pair. Tellez was 1/3 iwth a walk and a solo home run while Dwight Smith, Jr. was 1/3 and scored twice.

Jeremy Gabryszwski went seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits (including two home runs) and two walks with four strikeouts. John Stilson finished the game and took the loss, going one inning and allowing three runs on two hits and three walks with a strikeout.

Roster Notes: Chris Smith was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons and Shane Opitz was activated off the DL.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Lake County Captains 8
Game 2 of the Lugnuts’ new roster ended up with a similar result as the first as the club lost 8-6 to the Lake County Captains. Joshua Palacios was 2/5 with a double while Connor Panas was 2/3 with a double and Carl Wise was 2/5 with an RBI and a run. Cavan Biggio was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks, an RBI and a run. J.B. Woodman, who swung the big bat on Saturday, was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Ryan Metzler was 1/3 with a walk and his first home run of the year.

Justin Maese took all of the damage, allowing all eight runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings but struck out eight. Kirby Snead allowed three hits in two innings and struck out two.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Everett AquaSox 6
The Canadians salvaged a win in their series against the Everett AquaSox, scoring in the early going and holding off a late charge by the home team to win 8-6. Four two-run home runs took care of the scoring for the Canadians as D.J. McKnight and Juan Tejada hit their first of the year and Bryan Lizardo and Jacob Anderson each hit their third. Christian Williams was the only player with two hits, going 2/3 with a walk and a run.

Patrick Murphy went six innings, giving up four run son six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Grayson Huffman allowed a run on two hits over two innings with two strikeouts and Nick Hartman earned the save, giving up a run on two hits in the ninth.

Player of the Game: D.J. McKnight, Juan Tejada, Bryan Lizardo and Jacob Anderson


Bluefield Blue Jays 9, Johnson City Cardinals 5
Bluefield took advantage of four errors by the Johnson City Cardinals on their way to a 9-5 on Sunday. Reggie Pruitt continues his hot streak, going 2/5 with three RBI and two runs while Lance Jones was 2/4 with a walk and a run, stealing his 12th base. Bradley Jones drove in two runs, going 1/5 with a stolen base and Javier Monzon was 1/4 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and a run. Nick Sinay was also on base three times, going 1/3 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base.

Jose Espada earned the win with five innings of three-run, five-hit ball, striking out one. Kelyn Jose gave up an unearned run, walking three over 2 2/3 innings while Andrew Deramo allowed another run on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.
