Blue Jays from Away
Sunday involved a marathon for the Bluefield Blue Jays while the Dunedin Blue Jays had their game suspended just as it was about to hit extra innings.

 
Buffalo Bisons 10, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 1
The Bisons salvaged a win against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, scoring 10 times on 20 hits while Casey Lawrence and company held the IronPigs to just three hits in a 10-1 victory. Lawrence went 6 2/3 innings, giving up all three hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Matt Dermody finished the seventh, striking out the only batter he faced while Franklin Morales and Dustin Antolin each threw a scoreless (and hitless) inning in relief.

Dalton Pompey and Wilkin Castillo led the hit parade, each getting four hits. Pompey was 4/5 with a triple, a walk, three RBI and two runs while Castillo was 4/5 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs. Jesus Montero padded his team-leading .315 batting average with a 3/5 game while Darrell Ceciliani (2/5, 2 RBI, 2 R), Domonic Brown (2/6, RBI, R, SB), Shane Opitz (2/5, RBI, R) and Casey Kotchman (2/5, RBI, R) each had two hits.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Portland Sea Dogs 4
Like the Bisons, the Fisher Cats also stopped a short losing streak with a win on Sunday. In this game, the Fisher Cats were down until a two-run rally in the top of the eighth inning put them ahead of Portland. Shane Dawson got the start, throwing six innings and giving up four runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts. John Stilson earned the win, striking out all three batters he faced while Chris Smith faced the minimum of six batters over two innings, striking out three for his fourth save of the season.

The offense scored five runs on just eight hits with eight different players contributing with the bat. Roemon Fields hit a triple while Christian Lopes and Rowdy Tellez were 1/4 with a stolen base (and Tellez added an RBI. Jason Leblebijian and Jorge Flores drove in two runs each.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Charlotte Stone Crabs 3
Game suspended after the ninth inning due to rain.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Burlington Bees 7
The Lugnuts had no response for the three runs the Burlington Bees scored in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-5 win on Sunday. Justin Maese made his debut for the Lansing Lugnuts, throwing six innings and giving up four runs on eight hits and one walk without any strikeouts. Josh DeGraaf took over in the seventh and earned a blown save and a loss, giving up three runs on a two run home run and three other hits in two innings.

Juan Kelly led the offense, going 3/4 with his 10th home run of the year, drivingin two runs and scoring twice (adding a stolen base). Connor Panas had two doubles.

Roster Notes: Justin Maese was promoted from Vancouver to Lansing.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Boise Hawks 4
The Boise Hawks beat the Vancouver Canadians 4-3 to even the Cs record at 15-15 on the season. Dalton Rodriguez gave up all four runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks with two strikeouts over four innings. Geno Encina came in and threw four stellar innings, giving up only two hits and striking out five.

Javier Hernandez had two hits including a double, driving in a run while Yeltsin Gudino was 1/3 with a walk and two runs. D.J. McKnight was also 1/3 with a walk.

Bluefield Blue Jays 4, Greeneville Astros 5
In an epic, 6 1/2 hour match, the Greeneville Astros came out of the marathon with a walkoff, 5-4 win after 20 innings. The Bluefield bullpen was outstanding after Osman Gutierrez allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Angel Alicea threw three scoreless innings, striking out three and giving up just one hit while Chris Hall also went three innings, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out five. Christian Cox was better than both of them, throwing four no-hit innings without any walks and striking out three but shortstop Juandy Mendoza took the loss, throwing 1 1/3 innings, giving up the winning run in the 20th but striking out two along the way.

The Bluefield Blue Jays struck out, as a team, 34 times with three players K’ing five times each (Reggie Pruitt, Levi Scott and Earl Burl III). That said, Scott had three hits (3/9) with two doubles and a home run, driving in two and scoring twice. Nash Knight led the hit parade, going 4/9 with a triple, a home run, a walk, an RBI and two runs. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 3/8 with a double, two walks and a stolen base while Burl (2/9) and Jesus Severino (2/6, BB, 2B) had two hits each.
