The Blue Jays’ minor leaguers completed 10 games on Monday and lost seven of them. With double headers in the GCL and Bluefield, the clubs lost all of them and the GCL Blue Jays lost their hold on first place in their division.

Murphy Smith finished the game, allowing a run on three hits and a walk over two innings, striking out two.

Christian Lopes had an excellent game, hitting his third home run as a Fisher Cat this season, going 2/4 with two RBI and two runs. Rowdy Tellez (2/4, CS) and Ian Parmley (2/3, R, CS) also had two hits each.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Clearwater Threshers 1
Dickie Joe Thon’s three-run home run in the top of the eighth gave Dunedin enough of a cushion to defeat the Clearwater Threshers 4-1. Thon was 2/3 with the home run and added a walk and his 21st stolen base of the season. Anthony Alford was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run and Danny Jansen had the club’s only other hit, going 1/4 with a stolen base.

Jon Harris had an excellent outing for Dunedin, throwing 7 2/3 innings with just one run on three hits and one walk allowed with five strikeouts. Dusty Isaacs came on with two out and two on in the eighth and stranded them, walking a batter but getting all four outs via the strikeout.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Elizabethton Twins 4
The Blue Jays lost their regularly scheduled game, now shorted to seven innings as the second part of a double header following the completion of the Sunday’s game and there seemed to be some bad blood as both the Blue Jays’ second baseman Javier Monzon and the Twins’ shortstop Manuel Guzman were ejected after doing a little shoving following a play in the bottom of the sixth inning. Osman Gutierrez struck out seven but allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks in a solid outing. Stuart Holmes finished the game, taking over for Gutierrez after the starter walked the first two batters of the seventh inning. Homes got out of the inning with just one of the runners scoring (on a wild pitch) and struck out one.

The Blue Jays had only five hits including an RBI on a sacrifice fly from Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. Juandy Mendoza made two errors in the game.
