Blue Jays from Away
In their eight games, the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers managed a split despite getting destroyed in two games (Buffalo and Vancouver).
Buffalo Bisons 0, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 10
The Bisons were bludgeoned by the Yankees’ top farm club, getting two-hit in a 10-0 loss. Andy Burns and Domonic Brown had the only hits. John Anderson gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks over 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts while Bobby Korecky surrendered two runs on three hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings. Chad Girodo was the only pitcher to escape damage, allowing two hits but no runs in one inning and Dustin Antolin gave up a run on three hits in his inning.
Player of the Game: None
Roster Notes: Bo Schultz was promoted to the Toronto Blue Jays to take the roster spot of Marco Estrada who was placed on the DL.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Portland Sea Dogs 1
Righty Taylor Cole picked up his first win of the season, holding the Portland Sea Dogs to one run in the Fisher Cats’ 6-1 victory on Wednesday. Cole logged eight innings of one-run ball, giving up just one solo home run among four hits without walking anyone and striking out eight batters. Wil Browning finished the game with a strikeout of his own in the ninth inning.
Derrick Loveless is red hot for the Fisher Cats as he went 2/4 with a double and an RBI. Jorge Flores was 2/3 with a double, two RBI and a run while Emilio Guerrero was 2/3 with an RBI and a run.
Player of the Game: Taylor Cole
Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Brevard County Manatees 4
Dunedin won its second straight against the Brevard County Manatees, scoring three times in each of the fourth and fifth innings to provide themselves with a big enough cushion to come out on top of a 6-4 victory. Richard Urena was among five players who had two hits each. The red-hot shortstop has brought his average up to .279 with a 2/5 game that included a double. Jonathan Davis was 2/4 with a double, a walk and a stolen base, scoring twice. Ryan McBroom (2/5, R, RBI), Gunnar Heidt (2/5, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Dickie Joe Thon (2/4, SB, CS, PO) also had two hits each. Mike Reeves was on base three times with two walks and a single.
Conor Fisk had a solid start, going six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out seven and not walking anyone. Dusty Isaacs pitched 2/3 of an inning, walking one while Alonzo Gonzalez allowed just one hit over 1 1/3 innings. Carlos Ramirez walked three, getting one out and Colton Turner allowed one of those walks to score but still earned the save, getting two outs to close out the game.
Player of the Game: Gunnar Heidt and Jonathan Davis
Roster Notes: IF Aaron Attaway was sent to the Lansing Lugnuts.
Lansing Lugnuts 3, Dayton Dragons 4
The Lugnuts couldn’t beat the Dayton Dragons in Game 3 of their four-game series to keep the sweep alive, losing 4-3. Jon Harris, however, had a solid start, striking out eight without walking anyone over seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. Josh DeGraaf took the loss, giving up a run over two innings, striking out two.
Three Lugnuts had two hits apiece: John La Prise (2/4, 2B, 2 R), Carl Wise (2/4), and Juan Tejada (2/4, 2B).
Player of the Game: Jon Harris
Roster Notes: Ryan Metzler was placed on the 7-day DL and Aaron Attaway was assigned to Lansing from Dunedin.
Vancouver Canadians 4, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 16
It was a bad night to be a Vancouver pitcher as the Canadians were utterly destroyed by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes by a 16-2 score. Patrick Murphy started and avoided most of the damage, allowing only three runs (all unearned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Matthew Smoral ran into trouble, pitching to six batters in the fourth and giving up two hits, two hit batters and two walks before making way for Griffin Glaude. Four of the runners Smoral allowed came in to score while Glaude allowed two of his own runs over two innings, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Grayson Huffman allowed seven runs but only two were earned, walking four and giving up two hits with a strikeout in 2/3 of an inning. Jackson McClelland relieved Huffman and threw 2 1/3 innings of two-hit, one-walk ball with a strikeout.
The offense didn’t bring much to the game on Wednesday, with only Lance Jones getting multiple hits, going 3/4 with a walk. Christian Williams had a hit and a walk and Deiferson Barreto was 1/3 with two walks.

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Danville Braves 2
Bluefield opened their series against the Danville Braves with a 6-2 win thanks to some excellent pitching and solid hitting. Denis Diaz got the start for the Blue Jays, allowing just one run on one hit and three walks over five innings, strikin gout two. Connor Eller picked up the save, completing the game with four innings of work, giving up a run on three hits with five strikeouts.
Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. had another two hits, going 2/4 with a double and Edward Olivares also had a pair of singles, scoring a run. Nick Sinay was 1/4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two RBI while Kalik May drove in two runs with a double.
Player of the Game: Connor Eller and Denis Diaz
GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Yankees East 1
Wilfri Aleton could be the next Miguel Castro as he racked up another big strikeout game, allowing just one run to the GCL Yankees East club in a 6-1 win. Aleton struck out seven over six innings, giving up a run on six hits without walking anyone. William Ouelette struck out a batter over one inning and Orlando Pascual got the win, allowing just a hit over two innings of relief with two strikeouts.
The offense made good use of what they got, capitalizing on two home runs to score their six runs on just six hits. Bo Bichette was 1/4 with a triple, an RBI and a run whle Manuel Herazo hit a double. David Jacob was 1/4 with a solo home run while Antony Fuentes made the most of his only at bat, hitting a two-run home run, pinch-hitting for Ryan Gold in the ninth inning.
Player of the Game: Wilfri Aleton
DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Reds 2
Despite a strong pitching performance from their starter, the DSL Blue Jays lost a tightly-contested game 2-1 to the DSL Reds. Meliton Reyes dropped his ERA to just 1.46 with a stellar outing that involved six innings of one-hitter without giving up a run, walking two and striking out seven. Luis Mendoza blew the save and took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in two innings.
The offense was generally quiet with only Yorman Rodriguez having a multi-hit game, going 2/4.
