Josh Naylor, CBN POW, Week XV

1B Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) hit .500 (10-for-20) thanks to a 5-for-5 days to win Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honors.

George Farelli
Canadian Baseball Network

Josh Naylor has been known for a lot of things:

_ Like filling up the upper deck at Marlins Stadium at his pre-draft workout for the Miami Marlins in 2015.

_ Like hitting mammoth drives into parking lots from Arizona to Carterville, Ill., to Del Ray Beach, Fla., Troy, NY, High Point, NC and Jupiter, Fla. wearing an Ontario Blue Jays uniform.

_ Like spanning the glove wearing a Team Canada uniform hitting homers in Italy, the Dominican Republic and the Far East.

So, how many homers did he hit as Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) earned Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honors, the best of the 139 Canucks to have appeared in the minors this year?

Nil.

Zero.

Nada.

Nope.

All Naylor did was lead all Canadian hitters batting .500 for the week (10-for-20) with three RBIs for the class-A Greensboro Grasshoppers.

It was an impressive week for a lot as it was his first after playing in the Futures Game where he had two hits at Petco Park before 42,386 fans. A lot of players return to their minor-league outposts and go 1-for-15 wondering where the crowds went.

How the week that was went for Naylor as he

_ Went 3-for-4 with his 19th double in a 6-4 loss to the Greenville Drive before 4,846 fans at Fluor Field at the West End. Hitting third and playing first base Naylor singled to right in the fourth, doubled to left in the sixth and singled to left in the eighth.

_ Was 1-for-4 with an RBI single as Greensboro fell 3-1 to Greenville 4,654. Naylor singled to centre to give the Grasshoppers a 1-0 lead.

_ Was 1-for-3 with a double in a 3-2 loss to the Kannapolis Intimidators at Intimidators Stadium in the opener of the doubleheader after two days of rain outs. Naylor double to left in the first inning to give Greensboro a 1-0 lead.

_ Was hitless in four at-bats in a 5-4 win over Kannapolis before 1,154 Intimidators Stadium in the second game of the double dip.

_ Was 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in a 7-3 win against Kannapolis before 665 fans at Intimidators Stadium. He singled to left in the first, doubled off the first baseman’s glove in the third, his 21st, grounded to right knocking in a run putting Greensboro ahead 2-1 in what would eventually grow into a six-run fifth, led off the sixth with a double, his 22nd, to right and singled to second in the eighth.

He only struck out twice in 20 at-bats giving him 58 in 80 games. He is hitting .265 with the 22 doubles, two triples, nine homers and 50 RBIs, with a .754 OPS.

It was a good week for other Canucks as ...
