Tevlin leads Terriers in Senior Send-off tourney vs. young Terriers

Joe Tevlin (Toronto, Ont.) earned MVP honors as the Ontario Terriers 18U edged the Terriers 17U in the Senior Send-off tourney in Oakville. 

The Ontario Terriers 18U defeated their 17u counterparts 2-0 in the final of the Senior Send-off Tournament at Kings Christian College in Oakville on Sunday. 

It was a pitcher’s duel for 5 1/2 innings as the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. With one out Joe Tevlin singled to right field and advanced to second when Ethan Jodouin was hit by a pitch. Tevlin scored when Dreyden Sloat hit a hard ground ball to the right side that eluded the 17s infielders. Jodouin advanced to third on the play and later scored when Reagan Manly grounded out to second base which resulted in the only two runs of the game.

Starting pitcher for the 18s, Sam Turcotte was outstanding allowing one hit and no runs while striking out nine batters for a complete game shutout. The 17s starting pitcher, Andre Campbell was also on his game allowing just two runs on three hits.

Tevlin had an outstanding weekend with eight hits including two doubles and two home runs and was named the tournament’s MVP.

The Senior Terriers reached the final by defeating the Ontario Expos 4-1 on strong pitching performances by starter Alex Wall (five innings, one run, three hits, three strike outs) and reliever Christian Pandoff (two scoreless allowing one hit and a walk walk while striking out two.

The offence scored all of their runs in the final two innings when Tevlin broke the game open with a solo home run, followed by two hit performances from Elliott Curtis, Justin Wamboldt, Manley and another hit by Tevlin. Wil Hotta rounded out the offence with a single as well.

In the other semi-final, the 17U Terriers upset the undefeated Windsor Selects 1-0 on an outstanding pitching performance by Pierce Montgomery who threw a complete game for the victory. The only run of the game was scored in the fifth inning when Taylor Casbourne led off the inning with a walk. Zac Rachar advanced Casbourne to second with a bunt. Casbourne later scored on a game winning double by Andre Campbell.

RHP Ben Abram (Georgetown, Ont.) pitched a one hitter against the Ontario Expos.

Earlier in pool play, the Senior Terriers exploded for 24 runs in two games defeating the Ontario Expos 11-1 and the Ontario Thunderbirds 13-3. Ben Abram pitched Game 1 against the Expos throwing a complete game allowing one run on two hits with five strike outs. In Game 2 Carter Seabrooke garnered the win throwing four strong innings allowing one hit while striking out five batters. Matthew Correia closed the game facing only four batters in the fifth inning.
