Robson among best on Cape this summer
By Bob Elliott
What’s a young man to do for an encore when he makes the College World Series in Omaha as a freshman?
Try and get back there again.
OF Jacob Robson (Windsor, Ont.) and INF Kyle Hann (Oakville, Ont.) two Ontario Blue Jays grads, were part of the Mississippi State Bulldogs which reached the College World Series in 2013. The Bulldogs beat Oregon State twice and Indiana once before losing back-to-back to UCLA,
And now Robson is back in Starkville, Miss. after a promising summer on Cape Cod. He was drafted in the 30th round by scout Murray Zuk (Souris, Man.) in 2012.
The good folks with the keen eyes at Perfect Game USA scouting service have Robson tabbed to as the 52nd best prospect of the 60 ranked on the Cape.
Robson hit .318 for the Bourne Braves and was selected to play in the all-star game.
He’s likely the starting centrefielder for Mississippi State and a candidate to hit at the top of the order, when it opens the 2016 season in February.
Robson played in all 54 games last spring. He led the team with a .324 average, as well as runs scored (41), hit (60) and stolen bases (21-for-29).
He also had five doubles, a triple, one homer and knocked in nine runs, finishing with an .436 OPS.
As a sophomore both were injured and given medical red-shirt status with Hann batting .100 with one RBI, while Robson .063 in 18 games.
And as a freshman Hann hit .219 in 26 games with one RBI, while Robson batted .206 with 16 RBIs.
Hann is now at Oklahoma State University
