Canada opens Pan Ams vs Domicans

Canada defends its Pan Am gold starting July 11 against the Dominican Republic at the President’s Choice Pan Am Ballpark two diamonds in Ajax, Ont. The first women’s event begins July 20 as Canada opens against Cuba. OTTAWA – The men’s national team will open defence of their Pan Am Games gold medal on Saturday, July 11 against the Dominican Republic, while the Women’s National Team will play their first ever Pan Am Games contest on July 20 against Cuba as Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games organizers unveiled the baseball competition schedules.

The men’s competition will run from July 11-19, while the women’s event will take place from July 20-26. The new President’s Choice Pan Am Ballpark featuring two diamonds in Ajax, Ont. will host both competitions.

On the men’s side, seven countries will vie for the gold medal with a full round-robin taking place from July 11-17 before two semi-final games are played on July 18th. Bronze and gold medal contests will take place on July 19th. Alexis Brudnicki looks at the Canucks victory four years ago in Mexico.

After opening up against the Dominican Republic on July 11, Canada will take on Colombia in a matinee game on July 12. On July 13 Canada will play Nicaragua before facing international power, Cuba on July 14th. After an off day on July 15 Canada will play Puerto Rico on July 16thbefore closing out the round robin portion of the event against the United States on July 17.

The semi-final contests will see the one and four seeds, and two and three seeds square off on July 18th with the winners and losers meeting in the gold and bronze medal games, respectively.

The first-ever Pan Am Games women’s baseball competition will see five countries compete for the gold medal from July 20-26.

After meeting Cuba on July 20, Canada will face Venezuela on July 21. On July 22, Canada will play Puerto Rico before an off day on the 23, and close out the round robin against the United States on July 24.

Following the round robin, the number one seed will advance directly to the gold medal game, while the second and third seeds will meet in the semi finals with the winner qualifying for the gold medal game. The semi final loser will be awarded the bronze medal.
