Morehead State Eagles catcher Chris Robinson has been named a Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year was listed as the top catcher in Division I and the only OVC player on the 17-member first team.

“This is a wonderful honor for Chris,” coach Mike McGuire said. “He has put together a phenomenal season with consistency right from the start. Chris is part of a group of men who have put Morehead State in the national spotlight. The awards and accolades are well-deserved.”

Ten of the 17 First-Team All-Americans are from the “power” conferences. Robinson is the fourth league player to be named All-America by Collegiate Baseball since 2010.

One other Canadian earned Third Team All-American honors in junior outfielder Brett Siddall (Windsor, Ont.).

Robinson (Uxbridge, Ont.), ranks second nationally in hits (98), runs (77) and total bases (160), fourth in RBI (69), fifth in batting average (.412) and sixth in doubles (25). Among the First-Team All-Americans, he leads the group in doubles. Robinson also paces the league in batting average, hits, runs and total bases, while ranking third in doubles and RBI.

He also owns a .672 slugging percentage and .480 on-base mark.  The third-year Eagle, who transferred from Louisburg (N.C.) when McGuire accepted the MSU job, needs just one hit and three runs to establish single-season school records.

The Team Ontario grad leads the team with 28 multi-hit efforts, including six performances of four or more hits. He also paces MSU with 20 multi-RBI games, including 12 contests with three or more runs knocked in. He has scored three or more times in 10 games and held a 20-game reached-base streak earlier this season.

Robinson owns a .990 fielding percentage and has stolen a team-best 10 bases.

Morehead State opens NCAA Regional play on Friday against No. 3 national seed and regional host Louisville.

Siddall is the sixth Golden Griffin baseball player to be named an All-American in the last eight years and he is the program’s fourth third-team honoree since 2008.

The 2015 MAAC Player of the Year and an All-MAAC First-Team selection, Siddall is batting .353 (85-for-241) with 24 doubles, a triple and 12 home runs to go with 46 runs scored and 63 runs batted in this season. He now ranks in the top-five in the MAAC in seven different offensive categories, and he is the MAAC’s leader in doubles and homers this season. His 24 two-base hits in 2015 ranks first in school history for a singe-season and he enters the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship this weekend tied for 10th nationally in doubles.

On the year, Siddall boasts a slugging percentage of .610, an on-base percentage of .399 and he has six stolen bases on seven attempts. In the team’s 8-7 win over top-seeded Rider in the MAAC Baseball Championship May 22, his eighth-inning grand slam helped push the Griffs to an elimination game victory, and he closed out the MAAC’s postseason tournament by batting .440 (11-for-25) with five doubles, a homer, six runs scored and eight RBI in six contests. He will start the NCAA Tournament riding a season-long 10-game hitting streak, which dates back to May 12.

The Windsor Selects grad who played for Chris Soulierre and Joe Siddall, his wise pop, joins current teammate Connor Panas (2014), former teammate Jon Fitzsimmons (2013), Steve McQuail (2010), Shane Davis (2008) and Kevin Mailloux (2008) as the only six Canisius players in school history to be named All-Americans.

The Griffs (34-28) will return to action on Friday  when the team plays No. 8 Missouri State in the Springfield (Mo.) Regional of the NCAA Division I championship. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., Eastern Time, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. 

Canisius secured a berth in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship last weekend as the Blue and Gold won five-straight elimination games to earn the second conference baseball title in three seasons.
