COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. _ Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz gave their Hall of Fame induction speeches to a crowd of 45,000 on Sunday.
Yet the game is about more than words, it is about numbers too. Some numbers on the four newest Hall of Famers.
Zero _ Times Johnson and Martinez pitched against each other in the same regular season game. They faced each other in the 1997 and 1999 All-star games; neither allowed a run. Same number of times Johnson met Smoltz in the same regular season game. Johnson did win the clinching Game 5 of the 2001 NLCS, as Smoltz finished with two scoreless innings.
1 _ Player in major-league history, Biggio, with more than 3,000 hits, 600 doubles 400 stolen bases and 250 homers (Rickey Henderson was shy on the 600 doubles).
3 _ Post-season stolen bases by Smoltz (Game 3, 1991 National League Championship Series, Game 4, 1992 NLCS and Game 2, 1995 NLCS) equalling every other pitcher in post season. The others to steal were Wild Bill Donovan (1908), Billy Loes (1952) and Cliff Lee (2009).
5 _ Strikeouts Biggio had against Johnson in 14 hitless at-bats with two walks.
9 _ Combined Cy Young awards for Johnson (five), Martinez (three) and Smoltz (one).

13 _ Hits for Biggio in 43 at-bats (.302) against Martinez with six doubles, a triple, two RBIs and six walks. Biggio hit .239 off Smoltz, with three doubles, two homers, seven RBIs, nine walks and 29 strikeouts, including a 1-for-13 mark with three strikeouts during the postseason.

All the conditions were against him, and he still flourished.”
42 _ Games Johnson threw 140 or more pitches and twice in the early-to-mid-1990s, he threw 160 pitches with the Seattle Mariners.
