Stasyszyn's arm, Fleming's bat, lead Royal York to TBA title
The Royal York Cardinals took the Toronto Baseball Association peewee AA championship beating Bloordale 11-1 in the final at Sentinal Park in North Toronto.
That may sound like a one-sided finale, but it was not an easy road to reach the final as the Cardinals had to come from behind late to win their first two games of the double knock-out tourney.
This was the second straight TBA win for Royal York and now the coach Jeff Blanco’s Cardinals are off to the OBA championship in Windsor on Labour Day weekend.
Patrick Stasyszyn threw his second complete game of the tournament for the win in the final as Royal York’s bats were dominant, with every player recording at least one hit.
Nicholas Hendry, Melvin (MelvinBats) Bautista, Dylan Fleming, Joshua Fedato and Stasyszyn all had extra base hits. Catcher Michael Blanco went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Fleming contributed the game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 1 against North Toronto as the Cardinals rallied for a 3-2 win.
And Big D was at it again in the top of the seventh in their Game 2 for an 11-8 win over Bloordale.
Stasyszyn earned the Team Defensive MVP award for his pitching and Fleming was honored with the Team Offensive MVP award for his slugging prowess.
