So, how was your season Jared Mortensen?

Well, his second full season of affiliate pro ball worked out quite nicely thanks.

The undrafted right-hander from the LSU-Shreveport Pilots, who was signed out of the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the independent league, started off the season in April pitching for the double-A Montgomery Biscuits.

Then, he made a side trip to the Pan American Games in Ajax where he won a goold medal as Canada edged Team USA on a walk-off snowball fight (E-1, E-9) as Peter Orr (Newmarket, Ont.) dashed all the way around from first to score the winning run after Skyler Stromsmoe (Etzikom, Alta.) had scored the tying run from second.

Oh, and after that Mortensen (Abbotsford, BC) returned to the Tampa Bay Rays system. Recently promoted to the triple-A Durham Bulls he had a pair of wins in the final week of the season.

He had a pair of wins to earn Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honors for Week XXII the best of the 93 Canadians in the minors.

How the week that was went for Mortensen.

_ He pitched 5 1/3 innings to gain the win as Durham edged the Charlotte Knights 7-5 before 10,397 fans at BB&T Ballpark. He allowed four runs on six hits and one walk. He left with a 5-4 lead and fanned five. Mortensen threw 73 pitches (49 for strikes). 

_ Making just his second triple-A start, went 7 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and walking two while striking out seven as Durham blanked the Norfolk Tides 6-0 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park before 8,533 fans. The 27-year-old avoided trouble early, working out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the third and a two-on, two-out scenario in the fourth. He wasn’t working with much of a net as the score was 2-0 until the Bulls scored four times in the sixth. Mortensen threw 103 pitches (72 strikes).

Working primarily out of the bullpen in 2015 Sean Racliffe has put together a fine season for the Vancouver Canadians. This week he made three appearances, the first was on Sept. 3rd in a 2-1 loss to the Tri City Dust Devils in which he tossed two scoreless innings, gave up three base hits and was credited with his second hold of the season. On Sept. 5th in a 6-0 shutout win over the Everett Aquasox, he pitched one scoreless surrendered one base hit, but was not involved in the decision. On Sept. 6th in an 11-0 victory over Everett he threw one scoreless inning, gave up no hits, while striking out one Everett hitter, but again was not involved in the decision. His overall record spanning 22 relief appearances with Vancouver in the Single A Northwest League, now stands at 2-2 with a 3.60 ERA.

Jared Mortensen was promoted by Tampa Bay Rays from Double A Montgomery Biscuits to Triple A Durham Bulls just 10 days ago, and his first two starts at this level surely justified the move. On Sept. 2nd in a 7-5 victory over the Charlotte Knights, he pitched 5 1/3 innings gave up six base hits and four earned runs while striking out five Charlotte hitters, to earn his first win for the Bulls. Then on Sept. 7th in a 6-0 shutout win over Norfolk Tides he threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing seven base hits while striking out seven Norfolk batters, and gained his second win of the week. His record with Triple A Durham ended up at 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA and overall, including his stint with Double A Montgomery in the Southern League, he ended up at 9-5 with 3.68 ERA.

Scott Richmond was a mid season Free Agent signing by Wichita Wingnuts of the IND American Association, and the move has turned out very well for both parties.  The return to active duty allowed Scott to get his game back in form, and contribute to Team Canada’s recent Pan Am games Gold Medal victory. For Wichita it was a shrewd move because he had an excellent half season, making 11 appearances and helping them earn a first place finish in the South Division and a spot in the League Playoffs. On Sept. 3rd in a 12-2 win over Amarillo Thunderheads he pitched six innings, gave up five base hits and one earned run while striking out six Amarillo batters, to secure his sixth with of the season. His overall record with the Wingnuts ended up at 6-1 with a 1.79 ERA.

1B Justin Morneau (New Westminster, BC) - Colorado Rockies ended his Re hab assignment at Double A New Britain Rock Cats and recalled him to Major League Roster.
 
3B/1B Matt Hague (Bellevue, Wash.) - Called up to Major League Roster by the Toronto Blue Jays from Triple A Buffalo Bisons. Call up was a reward for his outstanding season with Buffalo, which included being selected the International League 2015 Most Valuable Player, Named the League’s All Star Third Baseman, and winning the League Batting Title with a .348 average in 136 games played.
 
3B Jamie Romak (London, Ont.) - Called up to Major League Roster by the Arizona Diamondbacks from Triple A Reno Aces.
