Two wins and loss were in the cards for the Blue Jays’ affiliates on Monday with the Buffalo Bisons getting postponed again, this time due to rain in Syracuse.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Hartford Yard Goats 4
In probably the most bizarre “home opener,” the Hartford Yard Goats took the victory over the “visiting” Fisher Cats 4-1 on Monday. The use of quotations is due to the fact that the game was actually played at New Hampshire’s Northeast Delta Dental Stadium because Hartford’s own stadium is still under construction. New Hampshire starter Jason Berken allowed two runs over five innings, walking three and giving up five hits while striking out two to take the loss while Daniel Schlereth gave up one unearned run in 1 1/3 innings without giving up a hit and walking two (with two strikeouts) while Wil Browning gave up a run in 1 2/3 innings on a hit and a walk but with three strikeouts.

The Fisher Cats’ offense matched the Yard Goats with six hits but could only score on Rowdy Tellez’s first Double-A home run. He was 1/3 with a walk as well as the dinger. K.C. Hobson and Jon Berti were both 2/4 with Berti hitting a double and a single.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, St. Lucie Mets 3
Dunedin got off to a good start, scoring in the first, third and sixth innings and barely held off a ninth-inning charge by the St. Lucie Mets to defeat them 4-3. Luis Santos only lasted two innings (perhaps leaving due to an injury because he only threw 25 pitches) and allowed two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Brad Allen did a Herculean job in relief, throwing four innings with two hits allowed, striking out five. Adonys Cardona gave up two hits and a walk in his inning but emerged unscathed while Tim Mayza gave up a hit in the eighth but got three outs in due course. When he came back out for the ninth, Mayza couldn’t get an out, allowing the leadoff batter to get on by a fielding error, followed by three singles, scoring one run. Leaving the bases loaded for Matt Dermody, Dermody gave up a sacrifice fly allowing one run and got a ground ball force out scoring another before striking out a batter to end the game.

Jonathan Davis was the only Blue Jay to have more than one hit, going 2/4 with a double and three runs while Ryan McBroom was 1/3 with a walk and his first home run of the year, driving in a pair. Christian Lopes and Richard Urena had the club’s only other hits.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Dayton Dragons 4
The Lugnuts finished their first home game of the season with a 6-4 win over the Dayton Dragons thanks to solid overall pitching and some timely offense. Francisco Rios got the start in a piggy-back arrangment and he struck out four over three innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk (while also committing a balk). Angel Perdomo followed with another three innings and only gave up a solo home run and a walk, striking out five in his Lansing debut. Conor Fisk earned both a blown save and a win, allowing a two-run home run among two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in his two innings. Colton Turner earned a save, allowing one hit and striking out two in a scoreless ninth.

The offense scored in pairs, putting up two runs in the third and fourth. In the third, Gunnar Heidt hit his first home run of the season (1/4, 2 RBI, SB), while Aaron Attaway (1/4, RBI) drove in a one and Andrew Guillotte (1/2, RBI, R, BB) drove in another in the fourth. After the Dragons had tied the game, Justin Atkinson (2/4, 2B, RBI, R) drove home Lane Thomas (1/3, BB, 2B, R) with a double to give the Lugnuts the lead and Jacob Anderson (2/4, RBI, R) added some insurance with a single that drove in Atkinson (who had moved up to third on a wild pitch). Josh Almonte also had a double and a walk, going 1/3.
