The home run plagued the New Hampshire Fisher Cats while the Buffalo Bisons also took a loss. Fortunately, the Lansing Lugnuts got excellent pitching and had a Blue Jays prospect return to the home run column for the first time in almost four years.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Rochester Red Wings 8
The Bisons opened up their series in Rochester with an 8-3 loss to the Red Wings on Friday night. Rochester got all the offense they needed in a four-run first inning of Canadian starter Chris Leroux who was eventually rocked for six runs on eight hits in six innings with three strikeouts. Bobby Korecky gave up the other two runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts over just two innings.

Jesus Montero, who wasn’t called up in the wake of the Chris Colabello suspension, was 2/4 for Buffalo and continues to lead the Bisons with a .328 batting average. Matt Dominguez hit his second home run of the year, driving in two of the Herd’s three runs while Jio Mier was 1/4 with the other RBI.

Player of the Game: Matt Dominguez

Roster Notes: LHP Chad Girodo was promoted to the Blue Jays.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Reading Fightin Phils 6
Much like for the Buffalo Bisons, one inning did the Fisher Cats in as starter Jason Berken allowed four runs to the Reading Fightin Phils in the third inning on the way to a 6-3 loss for the Fisher Cats. Berken allowed five of the six runs, walking three and giving up six hits including three home runs in his five innings, striking out five. Murphy Smith relieved him, allowing just a hit and a walk in two scoreless innings, striking out a pair of batters while Danny Barnes allowed a solo home run in the eighth inning.

The Fisher Cats scattered eight hits around the lineup but Melky Mesa had three of them, scoring a run. Rowdy Tellez was 1/2 with a walk, a run and an RBI (on a sacrifice fly) while Matt Dean and Wilkin Castillo had RBI.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Lake County Captains 1
The Lugnuts got a masterful pitching performance from Sean Reid-Foley who sliced through the Lake County Captains on the way to a 6-1 Lugnuts win. Reid-Foley threw five innings of one-run, two-hit ball with just two walks and seven strikeouts. Josh DeGraaf was just as good, throwing four scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and striking out a pair.

Aaron Attaway led the offense with three hits, an RBI and a run while Jacob Anderson hit his first professional home run since 2012, going 2/4 with two RBI. Gunnar Heidt was 2/4 with a double, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base while J.C. Cardenas hit a double, drove in a run and scored one. Justin Atkinson was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks.
