Fascia, Cummins enjoy Iowa

C Zachart Fascia (Brampton, Ont.) of the Brampton Royals, was ranked seventh best at the Rawlings Perfect Game Spring Top Prospect Showcase.

Zachary Fascia was one of six Canadians to get a look see from scouts and recruiters at the annual Perfect Game Spring Top Prospect Showcase.
 
Fascia (Brampton, Ont.) of the Brampton Royals was one of the best prospects at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The catcher was ranked seventh on the Rawlings Top Prospect List.

And one spot behind was SS Ethan Cummins (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Ontario Blue Jays, who ran a 6.92 60-yard dash.

Fascia showed well behind the plate. His velocity behind the plate was 83 mph, compared to 80 last February. His pop time was 1.86 compared to 1.9 at the Perfect Game Indoor Showcase.   

Besides Fascia and Cummins, four other Canucks were in Iowa.

2B Owen Jansen (Oakville) and OF Alex Jones (Bowmanville) both of the Ontario Blue Jays and both 2017s were in Iowa. Jones hit an inside-the-park home run and ran a 6.81 60 while Jansen was clocked a tick slower at 6.82. Jansen made the PG prospect 2017 list. 

RHP David Richards (Edmonton, Alta.) a Vauxhall Academy Jet is eligible in 2018 and 3B Austin Wheeler (Welland, Ont.) of the Bullett Proof Prospects, was draft eligible last year.

Batting Practice Highlights
Ethan Cummins (2016 SS, Mississauga, ON) is a young Canadian who has a slender build at 6-1/175 but has some hidden strength and a whippy barrel through the zone.  He attacks the ball aggressively and had one of the few home runs of the batting practice.

Red vs White

Alex Jones (2017, OF, St. Stephens HS, Bowmanville, ON-CAN) hit an inside the park home run to dead center with a good line drive plane and then used his 6.81 60 speed to get around the bases, also drove ball down right field line for a triple, ended day 3-3

Zachary Fascia (2016, C/RHP, Turner Fenton, Brampton, ON-CAN) the Indian Hills CC commit shows strength and power to the opposite field.  Has nice line drive swing plane on a triple to LF.  Was up to 87 on mound with good feel for 12/6 curve ball.

Owen Jansen (2017, MIF, Iroquois Ridge HS, Oakville, ON-CAN) sows a relaxed approach with good bat speed.
 

Black vs Purple Game Highlights
Ethan Cummins (2016 - Mississauga, Ontario) made multiple good plays defensively and showed excellent defensive tools.  He made a few tough plays look really easy and smooth. 

 

Red vs Royal Game Highlights
Owen Jansen (2017 - Oakville, Ontario) showed a good short swing path to the ball with good bat speed.  He also showed good defensive tools on the infield with quick transfers and release.

7. Zachary Fascia  - C - 2016 - Brampton, ON - CAN
A strong and physical Canadian, Fascia had some of the best arm strength of the event, throwing 83 mph from behind the plate in drills and popping a 1.86. His left handed bat is strong and plays up as well.

8. Ethan Cummins  - SS - 2016 - Mississauga, ON - CAN
Cummins stook out both offensively and defensively as a 6-1/175 shortstop. He looked especially good defensively in the games, where he made a number of difficult plays look easy, and has a strong right handed bat with whippy bat speed.

Jansen is a 6.8 runner who not only is a good defender in the middle of the field, he also swings a good bat and made consistent hard line drive contact. He was one of many talented Canadians at the event.
