By George Farelli

Dalton Pompey knows which bridge is best.

He knows the wait times -- Queenston-Lewiston, Rainbow or the Peace Bridge.

He knows the best place for chicken wings -- Duff’s, Gordon’s, Gabriel’s Gate, Big Ditch, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and the Anchor Bar.

And he knows that if you pay the toll the QEW roadway will lead to the Rogers Centre, home of Your and His Toronto Blue Jays.

Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) led all Canuck in hits (eight) to bat .500 for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons earning Canadian Baseball Network Minor League Player of the Week for Week XIV.

1   7.0   5   -   -    1   5  1-0   -   0.87    0.00
Andrew Albers continues to pitch very well for the Red Wings and this week had another excellent start. On June 3 in a 5-0 win over Louisville Bats he pitched seven scoreless innings gave up five base hits while striking out five Louisville batters, to earn his fourth with of the season. This outing improved his Triple A International League record in seven starts to 4-1 with a 3.30 ERA.

With some excellent pitching plus the outstanding run support provided by his teammates, Nick Pivetta was able to generate two wins for the Fightin’ Phils this past week. On June 2nd in a 15-9 victory over Portland Sea Dogs he threw five innings gave up seven base hits and five earned runs while striking out six Portland hitters, to earn his fifth win of the season. On June 7th in an 11-1 win over Akron Rubber Ducks he pitched five innings and surrendered only three base hits and one earned run while striking out five Akron batters, to pick up his second win of the week and sixth of the year. Along with Canadian teammate Scott Diamond, Chris Leroux has now become an important part of the Bisons starting rotation, and this week he had another fine outing. On June 4th in a 13-4 win over the Syracuse Chiefs he pitched six innings, gave up five base hits and three earned runs while striking out four Syracuse batters, to earn his fourth win of the season. This win improved his record in 11 starts with Buffalo to 4-3 with a 3.00 ERA.

JON FITZSIMMONS  RHP  -  IND  QUEBEC CAPITALES
APP   IP   H  R  ER  BB  K  W-L  SV  WHIP  WK ERA

5   5.0   1   -   -    1  9   1-0   2   0.40    0.00
My recollection may be somewhat flawed, but I’m quite certain this is the first time we’ve documented five game appearances in a single week for any one Pitcher, but Quebec Capitales reliever Jon Fitzsimmons accomplished that feat in the past seven days. He pitched in five of Quebec’s six games played earning one win and two saves, plus a no decision in the other two games. All appearances were one inning stints and in the process, he gave up only one base hit and no runs, while striking out nine opposition batters. His IND Can Am League record in nine relief appearances, now stands at 1-0, with 2 Saves and a perfect 0.00 ERA.
