2020 Women’s Baseball World Cup awarded to Monterrey

OTTAWA- Monterrey, Mexico will host the 2020 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup next November, the international federation announced yesterday at the III WBSC World Baseball Softball Congress in Sakai, Osaka, Japan.
The Canadian Women’s National Team gained entry into the event last summer via a third place finish at the COPABE Americas Women’s Baseball World Cup Qualifier in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The Women’s National Team program has experienced a run of success at recent Women’s Baseball World Cup events including a thrilling, extra-innings win over the United States in Viera, Florida to capture the bronze medal at the 2018 event while winning silver in Gijang, Korea at the 2016 event.
Canada, currently ranked No. 2 in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Ranking, has medalled at six of eight all-time Women’s Baseball World Cup events including bronze in 2004, 2006, 2012 and 2018 while capturing silver in 2008 and 2016.
The 2020 calendar for the Women’s National Team program officially kicks off in February with the annual Girl’s Baseball Development Camp in Cuba with the Women’s Invitational Championships scheduled for the summer in Stonewall, Man.
