21U Women’s: Manitoba, Nova Scotia score big upsets

Host Manitoba and Nova Scotia both scored big upset wins over Québec and Ontario respectively on Friday to turn the 21U Women’s Invitational in Stonewall, Man., into anyone's event with the final day of round-robin competition set for Saturday.
Here’s a recap of Friday’s action:
Québec 18, Nova Scotia 3
Québec shook off a tough loss to Ontario with a convincing 18-3 win over Nova Scotia that was called after four due to the mercy rule. Arianne Levesque tripled as part of a 3-for-4 game at the plate that included three RBI while Sena Catterall and Marie-France Castillo had two hits apiece. Nova Scotia’s Brogan MacNeil had an RBI double in the loss.
Ontario 23, Saskatchewan 2
Ontario scored multiple runs in all five of their offensive innings and used 18 hits to score a 23-2 win over Saskatchewan. Emily Baxter, Miya Waldron and Meagen Crandall had three RBI apiece while Elizabeth Plamondon went 4-for-4 with four RBI.
Manitoba 6, Québec 3
Zoe Hicks banged a double and triple, and had one RBI while Caitlin Wilkinson drove in two as host Manitoba stunned Québec, 6-3. Jamie Johnson earned the win with four innings of work on the mound while Katelyn Heppner recorded a three-inning save. Catherine Labelle and Alexane Fournier had two hits each for Québec.
Nova Scotia 6, Ontario 4
Nova Scotia scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and hung on to defeat previously unbeaten Ontario, 6-4. Jenna Jackson had a double and two RBI while Carly Jackson also drove in two. Alexis Galloway started and gave Nova Scotia four solid innings on the mound and Katie Hagen closed the door in the seventh to get credited with the win. Elizabeth Plamondon had two hits and an RBI for Ontario.
