Ryan Kellogg was one of the best to ever take the mound for coach Greg Hamilton and the Canadian Junior National Team.

At Arizona State, he compiled a 28-6 won-loss record and a 3.50 ERA in 47 starts -- walking 62 and striking out 212 in 321 innings -- to rank as the best college pitching career by a Canadian. Only four-year men surpassed his numbers.

So, it should come as zero surprise that Kellogg (Whitby, Ont.) the former Ontario Prospects catcher earned Canadian Baseball Network minor league Canadian player of the week. Yep there was a time when the smooth LHP for the class-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans arrived to Rob and Rich Butler’s program a left-handed catcher.

Realizing Kellogg’s future was on the mound, the Butlers converted him. A few years and a ton of bullpen sessions, later he finished his grade 12 season and was selected in the fifth round by the Chicago Cubs after dominating for ASU.

How the week that was went for Kellogg as he ...

_ Pitched 6 2/3 innings for Myrtle Beach in a 4-2 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks before 2,309 fans at TicketReturn.com Field in Myrtle Beach. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out four. Kellogg retired the first 10 men in order before issuing a walk. In the first five innings he allowed two base runners. With a 4-0 lead in the seventh he allowed a single, triple and a double and was gone. He threw 96 pitches -- 65 for strikes -- getting seven ground ball outs and three fly ball outs.

_ Then, he pitched six scoreless innings at the Pelicans blanked the Buies Creek Astros before 424 at Jim Perry Stadium. He allowed two doubles in his sit innings walking one and whiffing one. The lefty needed only 85 pitches -- 49 strikes -- to put up six zeros. He retired six outs on ground balls and seven fly ball outs.
