Ontario Blue Jays Josiah Devapalan (Brampton, Ont.) was one of seven Canucks to make the all-tourney team at the Perfect Game World Wood bat championship in Fort Myers this month.

The best high schoolers from across North America gathered in Fort Myers Perfect Game World Wood bat championship tournament.

A total of 96 teams and roughly 4,900 players -- without a roster limit some teams were at 20, others at 30, but the guess on an average roster was 25.

Included in that total were 40 Canadians sprinkled on the rosters of six different teams for the 22nd annual event. To frame it better, there was one complete roster -- the Ontario Blue Jays -- with players dotting lineups of five other teams.

Seven Canadians made the all-tournament team: five from the Ontario Blue Jays and one each from the Great Lake Canadians and the Toronto Mets.

Those on coach Mike Steed’s roster who earned the honour were position players Josiah Devapalan (Brampton Ont.), Lucas Johnson (Burlington Ont.) and Mackenzie Mitchell (Toronto Ont.), plus pitchers Matt Marzec (Burlington Ont.) and Ryan Wells (Caledon, Ont.).

Great Lakes Canadians Caleb Clark (Orillia, Ont.), who pitched for the Brewers Langley Blaze Scout Team, and Toronto Mets’ Turner Spoljaric (Lisle, Ont.) of the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team also earned all-tourney honours.

Highest velocity by a Canadian was a 95 MPH fastball from Great Lakes’ Calvin Ziegler (Heidelberg Ont.) who pitched for the Ohio Warhawks.

Glenn Noronha (Mississauga Ont.) and Mateo Zeppieri (Newmarket Ont.), both of the Ontario Blue Jays were named elite hitters.
