Alomar brings PR12 home to Puerto Rico
ROBERTO ALOMAR AND MLB PARTNER BRING PR12 TO PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico 12 (PR12) Amateur Baseball Showcase will take place July 31-Aug. 5 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, in San Juan.
The objective of Puerto Rico 12 is to showcase the best 150 Puerto Rican born amateur players in front of Major League Scouts and College Recruiters. Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar will act as tournament commissioner and receive assistance from his father Sandy, along with former Puerto Rican MLB players, coaches and staff.
The tournament will be of free admission to the public and MLB teams and college recruiters are encouraged to attend. Confirmation of scout/recruiter attendance can be sent to info@alomarsports.com
“I am extremely grateful to be partnering with Commissioner Rob Manfred and Major League Baseball to provide this amazing opportunity for youth baseball in my native Puerto Rico,” Alomar said. “The tournament has received tremendous support across the island and I’d like to thank the municipalities of Mayaguez, Juana Diaz, Salinas, Guaynabo, Aibonito, Gurabo and Fajardo for holding our tryouts at their stadiums.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for allowing the use of Hiram Bithorn Stadium for the tournament. I am humbled and overwhelmed by the hard work and dedication from our tournament organizers, coaches and staff at Petra Media. This is going to be a special tournament and I look forward to seeing these young players pursue their dreams.”
Tryouts for the tournament were held across the island over the course of the Summer and players were selected by a committee made up of Alomar Sports Inc. and the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation.
Six teams will participate in a Scouting Combine followed by a five-day tournament with a champion being crowned on Aug. 5. Each team is guaranteed five games.
