THUNDER BAY, Ont. _ Victoria Mariners alum Jason Willow (Victoria, BC) almost leaps over a Chinese Taipei base runner and into the Grant Thornton sign -- our country’s top accounting firm -- during Canada’s extra-inning loss to Chinese Taipei.
OF Clayton Keyes (Calgary, Alta.) hit the first pitch the first pitch he saw the opposite way over the right field wall in the bottom of the first with Edouard Julien (Québec, Que.) on first base giving Canada an early 2-1 lead.
Keyes has committed to Central Arizona College. He was drafted in 2016 in the 17th round but chose not to sign.
And after touching the plate Keyes tips his cap to the crowd at Port Arthur Stadium in appreciation.
Willow batted sixth and played shortstop since Adam Hall (Dorchester, Ont.) was injured after a couple of games of pro ball with the Rookie Class Gulf Coast Orioles.
Archer Brookman (Pointe Claire, Que.) is greeted after his fifth-inning homer that put Canada up 5-3 lead. He lined a one-out, solo home run over the left field wall and finished 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.
Vauxhall Academy Jet LHP Wesley Moore (Surrey, BC) pitched five innings allowing a run in the first and a two-run single in the fifth to bring Chinese Taipei to within a run. He allowed three runs on three hits and four walks, while fanning two.
