COACHES COMMENTS:

The Thunderbirds continued their winning streak this weekend rattling off five victories in a weekend sweep of the College of Idaho Yotes. That marks nine straight victories, and still undefeated at the friendly confines of Thunderbird Stadium. The first game was a makeup game from earlier in the season.

Niall Windeler was stellar in Game 1, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning as the offence gave him all the support he needed to get the victory 3-1.

The Yotes struck early in Game 2, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Brad Smith kept the Birds in the game and the offence chipped away but found themselves down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth. Kyle McComb started the ninth inning with a leadoff walk. Lanferman then laid down a bunt and reached on an error allowing McComb to score to tie the game. Later in the inning with runners on the corners, Lanferman was able to score the winning run on an unsuccessful double play turn on an Allemann ground ball, marking the 3rd walk off victory in the first six home games.

On Day 2, Adam Mckillican got the ball in the first game going seven innings giving up four and collecting the win backed by good performances from Custati (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Freshman Nolan Weger who went 4-for-4. The T- Birds went up 4-0 but the Yotes made it close in the ninth, coming within a run before Allemann shut the door getting the save.

Former Langley Blaze Mitch Robinson (Surrey, BC) homered.

James Bradwell got the start in the back end of the double header and was brilliant. Bradwell went seven scoreless, scattering five hits, walking none and striking out seven in the 6-0 win. Cusati stayed hot at the plate again going 2-for-5 with three RBIs including a solo home run. Valcke, Robinson and Hirakawa- Kao also pitched in with three hits apiece as the Thunderbirds completed the double header sweep for a second straight day.

The weekend was capped with a single game, and yet another Birds victory on Easter Sunday. Finn Duffield got the start but it was the relief performance by Braeden Allemann who kept the Birds in the game to pick up the come-from-behind win. Allemann went 4 1/3 scoreless collecting eight strike outs along the way in his first win of the year. UBC scored twice in the fourth and two more in the fifth from a Mitch Robinson home run, which was all they needed.

With another strong weekend at home, the Thunderbirds climb to second in the NAIA West standings and are now 2 games over .500 overall.

Lucas Soper and Zach Prisciak were both out this weekend with lower body injuries but will look to return next weekend against defending National Champions LC State.
