Day 4 Recap

Nova Scotia 4 - 14 Ontario (Welland Stadium)

Ontario's big bats cruised to a 14-4 victory over Nova Scotia in the final round-robin game of the tournament at Welland Stadium. 

Veer Wadhwani (Toronto, Ont.) had a monster night at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, producing an RBI and scoring three runs of his own. Lucas Alberti (Toronto, Ont.), Brendan Lawson (Toronto, Ont.) and Preston Barr (St. Joachim, Ont.) all had multi-hit performances combining for nine RBIs on seven hits to set the tone at the top of the lineup for Team O's offence. Sam MacLaughlin (Brampton, Ont.) was the starter for Ontario, working the full six innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out eight batters. Nova Scotia put up a fight in the late innings but couldn't recover from the big deficit. Mitch Doucette (Dartmouth, N.S.) led the Nova Scotia offence with two hits, a run batted in and a run scored. Seth MacPherson (Bible Hill, N.S.) drove in two out of the four Nova Scotia runs in his 1-for-3 performance.

Manitoba 15 - 4 Alberta (Oakes Park)

Manitoba took the lead with a monster 10-run fifth inning to take their last game of round-robin play against previously undefeated Team Alberta.

Manitoba's offence was led by Cody Gunderson (St. Malo, Man.) who had a monster four-RBI night, collecting two hits over his three at bats and scoring one run of his own. Hugh Montgomery (Winnipeg, Man.) was also productive offensively, driving in three runs and scoring a pair over his two at bats. Tyson Vassart (La Salle, Man.) had himself a perfect night at the plate going 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Ethan Giesbrecht (Altona, Man.) was the starting pitcher for Manitoba, working the full five innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out seven. Kaidan Baron (Sprucegrove, Alta.) did his best to spark Alberta's offence with a 1-for-2 performance while collecting a pair of RBIs. Nathan Flewelling (Innisfail, Alta.) scored a pair of runs for his squad over his 1-for-3 night at the dish as Team Alberta dropped their first game of the tournament. 

Saskatchewan 0 - 10 British Columbia (Welland Stadium)

British Columbia's pitching staff shut the door on the scorching hot Saskatchewan offence in a 10-0 win in the last game of round-robin play for these two provinces. The win gives British Columbia first in their pool, punching their ticket to the quarter final game against Team Alberta. 

Will Anderson (Delta, BC) and Matthew MacDonald (Kamloops, BC) combined for the four-hit shoutout against Saskatchewan, each collecting three punchouts while only walking one batter. Sam Shaw (Victoria, BC) had a productive day at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring one over his three at bats. Kenny Scott (Delta, BC) had himself a perfect game offensively, going 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and driving in a pair. Cory Wouters (Saskatoon, Sask.) had a solid day at the plate for Team Sask, collecting two hits in three at bats. Callum Hollinger (Carnduff, Sask.) had a perfect 2-for-2 night at the dish as well.

Prince Edward Island 1 - 11 New Brunswick (Oakes Park)

A four-RBI day for Demitri Shakotko (Fredericton, N.B.) led New Brunswick to a commanding victory over Prince Edward Island. Shakotko’s four RBIs came on a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth, as part of his 3-for-3 performance. 

Jack Baxter (Saint John, N.B.) was the starter for New Brunswick and worked six frames, allowing only one earned run while fanning three. Michael Losier (Dieppe, N.B.) contributed to his team's offensive effort, collecting one hit in two at bats, driving in two and scoring a pair as well. Cayle Coffin (Pisquid, PEI) and Cody McCormack (Richmond, PEI) both had a perfect day at the plate for Prince Edward Island, going 2-for-2 and 1-for-1 respectively. They also each had a walk.

Newfoundland & Labrador 0 - 7 Québec (Welland Stadium)

Québec’s pitching staff combined for a three-hit shutout to win big in their last round-robin game against Newfoundland & Labrador.

William Brossard (Val-des-Monts, Que.) and Marek Lalonde (Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Que.) toed the rubber for Team Québec, working 5 2/3 innings, with each of them striking out five Newfoundland hitters. Justin Anctil (Mirabel, Que.) had a pair of RBIs for his squad, scoring one as well over his three at bats. Loic Massé (Lévis, Que.) was a spark at the top of the lineup, collecting a hit and two RBIs, while also scoring a run in his four at bats. On the other side, Newfoundland's Cameron Pennell (St. John's, Nfld.) and Thomas Hancock (Massey Drive, Nfld.) both collected a hit in three at bats. Jaida Lee (St. John's, Nfld.) made her second appearance of the tournament, retiring the only batter she faced on three pitches.
