Baseball PEI names Rhonda Pauls new executive director

Baseball PEI is very pleased to announce that Rhonda Pauls has accepted the position of executive director.

Rhonda and her husband Steve, are looking forward to making the trip across the country from their Abbotsford, B.C. home. Rhonda was the Baseball Canada Umpire Developer of the Year in 2021 and has worked as a Level 5 umpire at COPABE America’s World Cup, Pan Am Games, is a Training Official for D3, D2, JUCO, and NAIA Tucson Games College Spring Training and has worked numerous other international events. She will be leaving her position as President of BC Baseball Officials Association where Steve, also a Level 5 umpire, is the Provincial Supervisor of Umpires.

She brings to Baseball PEI, 25 years of experience as a public sector elected official, multi-sport coach, with the perspective of a high-performance athlete and elite level official plus the highest commitment to the responsible management of youth programming.

She brings 15 years of experience, building capacity, guiding and directing professionals and volunteers in sport. She has equivalent experience with organizational leadership in public education, including serving as consultant for BC Ministry of Education focus group for Curriculum Development of Physical Education in grades 8-10.

She will be retiring at the end of her term on the Abbotsford Board of Education where she is a trustee and vice-chair, and has served on strategic planning toward the overall goal of student achievement, collaborative budget development, chair of committees in finance, facilities, policy development and education, senior staff evaluation, and monitoring of policy compliance among other responsibilities.

She recognizes youth are our future and the privilege of guiding their development is a tremendous responsibility.

“As we emerge from this pandemic, it is imperative that we identify and address the gaps for our coaches, athletes and officials that have impacted them both physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” said Pauls.

“As a PSO, it is also imperative that Baseball PEI can pivot and adapt to the current environment, new Safe Sport directives from Baseball Canada and evaluate its policies and practices to be culturally inclusive, promote equity and welcome diversity.”

Pauls is excited to have in Baseball PEI this full-time baseball opportunity involving the overall growth of the game. She takes this position with Baseball PEI having just exceeded its largest number of players and teams in its history, strong growth in girls’ baseball and umpire numbers, and Baseball Atlantic playoffs where teams captured the most medals in its history.

Baseball PEI is excited to have her as their new Executive Director and looks forward to following her leadership in the further development of baseball on PEI. She will have her first day in the office on April 4.
