Bo Bichette, Rowdy Tellez and Cavan Biggio overshadowed strong pitching by Ryan Borucki as the Blue Jays demolished the Minnesota Twins 10-1 on Sunday.
Bichette led things off in the first with a solo home run and Rowdy Tellez, batting clean up, cleaned things up with another home run before the inning was up. In the end, Both Bichette and Tellez had three hits apiece including two home runs; Bichette added a double while Tellez was 3/4 with five RBI.
Lourdes Gurriel was 2/4, Danny Jansen was 2/3 with a double and an RBI and Cavan Biggio added to the tater total by going 2/4 with a blast and two RBI.
Ryan Borucki went five innings for the Jays without giving up a run, allowing five hits and two walks with three strikeouts. He gave way to Trent Thornton who allowed a run on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings. Joe Biagini took over for the eighth and had a scoreless inning of work. Patrick Murphy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one.
In other notes, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.(Montreal, Que.) was diagnosed with an oblique strain and is going to be out for three weeks, putting an end to any talk about the Blue Jays holding him back in the minor league when he should be in a Toronto uniform.
Cavan Biggio was in a car accident, hitting a brick wall after swerving to avoid a woman at a yield sign, but he passed all of the concussion protocols and is fine (as can be seen from his home run on Sunday). In a good news story, the person who stopped to help Biggio, without knowing his teammate was in the car, was Anthony Alford.
The Blue Jays have Monday off and are back in action on Tuesday, hosting the Tampa Bay Rays with Aaron Sanchez on the mound.
