TORONTO -- A day after their bullpen went the distance in a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox, the Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics teamed up to send RHP Edwin Jackson to Toronto in exchange for cash considerations on Saturday.
Jackson, 35, has appeared in parts of 16 MLB seasons and joins Toronto having pitched to an ERA of 4.60 with 1,456 strikeouts against 747 walks over his lengthy career.
In 17 games with the Athletics last year, the 6-foot-2 right-hander went 6-3 while posting a WHIP of 1.217 over 17 appearances, all of which came out of Oakland's starting rotation.
Signed to a minor league pact on April 11, Jackson has made three starts between class-A Advanced Stockton and triple-A Vegas so far in 2019, walking seven and allowing 11 earned runs of 14 2/3 innings of work.
In the wake of Clay Buchholz landing on the disabled list on Friday, Jackson is ticketed to start on Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco.
This is Jackson's second tenure with MLB's Canadian outpost... Technically.
Traded to Toronto as part of a deal that sent Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart to Chicago on July 27, 2011, the former 6th-round draft pick was then flipped to St. Louis alongside Octavio Dotel and Marc Rzepczynski in exchange for Trever Miller, P.J. Walters, and Colby Rasmus later that day.
When he takes the hill on Wednesday, the Blue Jays will become Jackson's 14th MLB club.
