On the eve of Opening Day, the Toronto Blue Jays have acquired C Juan Graterol from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for cash considerations.
Headed to the club's alternate training site, Graterol, 32, has spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues, slashing .218/.227/.266 with six extra-base hits across 124 at-bats dating back to his debut season with the Angels in 2016.
He's fared much better in the minors, batting .272 across 647 games, while throwing out 37% of would-be base stealers.
This will be Graterol’s second stint with the Blue Jays. Prior to the 2017 season, the Blue Jays claimed the right-handed swinging product of Maracay, Ven., off waivers from the Angels.
In Graterol, the Blue Jays pick up both a depth piece and an insurance option should the club choose to roll the dice and place the option-less Reese McGuire on waivers later this week.
