TORONTO -- On Wednesday, the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians came to terms on a deal that sent infielder Gio Urshela to the Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Having appeared in 148 games at the major league level, Urshela, 26, has slashed .225/.273/.314 with 23 extra-base hits and 26 walks in parts of two seasons dating back his debut on June 9, 2015.

After suffering a hamstring injury during Spring Training in which he hit an impressive .500 (21-for-42), Urshela was batting .324 with four doubles and seven RBI through 11 rehab games as a member of the triple-A Columbus Clippers prior to Wednesday's trade.

Designated for assignment by the Tribe on Friday, the free-swinging right-handed hitting product of Cartegena, Colombia will report to Toronto once details involving his work visa have been resolved.
