TORONTO - After landing on the disabled list with discomfort in his right index finger, right-hander Aaron Sanchez has been activated by the Blue Jays and will make his first start since June 21 on Saturday afternoon in Toronto.

In a corresponding move, southpaw Jaime Garcia has been designated for assignment.

In 15 starts at the MLB level this season, Sanchez has pitched to an ERA of 4.52 with 67 strikeouts against 45 walks in 79 2/3 innings.

Hampered by injuries over the past couple of seasons, the 6-foot-4 native of Barstow, Calif., has amassed just 115 2/3 innings since leading the American League in ERA (3.00) in 2016.

In three rehab tuneups split between the Gulf Coast League, New Hampshire and Buffalo, Sanchez walked 10 batters while allowing eight earned runs through 11 frames.

Sighed to a one-year deal with a club option for 2019, Garcia wet 3-6 over 13 starts and had been relegated to a relief role since returning from the DL with a shoulder strain on July 15. In 25 appearances with the Blue Jays this season, the 10-year vet accounted for an ERA of 5.93 while allowing a career-high 1.6 HR/9 in 74 1/3 innings.

As currently constructed, the Blue Jays rotation consists of Sanchez, Marcus Stroman, Marco Estrada, Sam Gaviglio, Ryan Borucki and Thomas Pannone, who took a no-hitter into the seventh during his debut as a starter on August 22.
