The Toronto Blue Jays' offence continued to struggle to get on base as they played their first game of the season outdoors, facing Trevor Bauer in a 4-1 loss.

The Blue Jays didn't get a hit until the ninth inning although they had six walks and had one batter hit by a pitch as Bauer struck out eight through seven innings. The Jays still couldn't get a hit or a run in the eighth despite another two walks and Rowdy Tellez getting hit by a pitch. The dam broke slightly in the ninth as Freddy Galvis broke up the no-no leading off the ninth against Brad hand with a single, followed by a single by newly-acquired Alen Hanson. Teoscar Hernandez hit a double to score Galvis before Randal Grichuk and Rowdy Tellez struck out to end the game with the loss.

Galvis had a perfect night, going 1/1 with three walks and Billy McKinney walked twice. Randal Grichuk, Danny Jansen and Brandon Drury each walked once.

Aaron Sanchez started on the mound and had a strong start despite taking the loss. He went six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts before turning things over to Tim Mayza who struggled in the seventh. He faced seven batters, walking three (including an intentional walk), giving up a hit and hitting a batter in 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout. Sam Gaviglio stranded the bases loaded and allowed a hit in the eighth without giving up a run with a strikeout.
