TORONTO - With four games remaining in the regular season, and infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. sidelined with a hamstring injury, the Toronto Blue Jays have promoted INF Jon Berti.
The club has also transferred INF Brandon Drury to the 60-day disabled list in order to create an opening on their 40-man roster.
Berti, 28, slashed .296/.384/.446 with 29 extra-base hits through 101 minor league games divided between double-A New Hampshire and a pair of triple-A outposts in Columbus and Buffalo.
Selected by Toronto in the 18th round of the 2011 draft, the versatile right-handed hitting product of Troy, Mich., has posted a cumulative OPS of .698 across 798 minor league appearances dating back to his professional debut as a member of the class-A Short-Season Vancouver Canadians.
Diagnosed with a fractured hand in August, Drury, who was acquired alongside Billy McKinney in the J.A. Happ deal, slashed just .169/.256/.260 through 86 assignments between the New York Yankees and Blue Jays this season. A career .262 batter, the right-handed hitting utility man is under team control through the 2021 season.
