TORONTO -- With a bullpen that's already accounted for 10 innings over their first two games against the Boston Red Sox, and right-hander Joe Biagini being pressed into a spot start due to Marcus Stroman's placement on the 10-day disabled list, the Toronto Blue Jays added some additional pitching depth to their active roster ahead of Sunday's finale at Rogers Centre.

Right-hander Deck McGuire has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo, while infielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was optioned and righty Carlos Ramirez was designated for assignment to open a spot on the team's 40-man roster.

Selected by Toronto in the first-round of the 2010 June Amateur Draft, McGuire, 29, made his big league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2017, appearing in six games and striking out 11 batters over 13 2/3 innings.

Through five assignments with Buffalo in 2018, the 6-foot-6 product of Richmond, Va. has posted an ERA of 2.70 with 27 strikeouts against 12 free passes.

Having amassed an even 70 plate appearances since being called up to Toronto on April 20, Gurriel collected 14 hits including a triple and two home runs during his first tour of duty in the Show.

Despite earning his first promotion to the big leagues and finishing 2017 with a respectable ERA of 2.70 with 14 strikeouts over 16 2/3 innings, Ramirez, a converted outfielder, struggled out of the gate this year and allowed five free passes over a pair of appearances with Toronto prior to be optioned to Buffalo in early May.

Through seven appearances with the Herd this season, Ramirez issued eight walks and allowed five earned runs across 8 1/3 frames prior to Sunday's transaction.
