TORONTO -- The Blue Jays now have a staggering 35 players on their active roster as both C Reese McGuire and RHP Justin Shafer received an official call to the Show earlier today.

A former first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, McGuire, 23, owns a career slash line of .263/.326/.344 with 98 extra-base hits across 479 minor league assignments dating back to his professional debut in 2013. Those totals include a .233 batting average and seven home runs through 96 games with triple-A Buffalo this season.

Ranked as the Blue Jays' 20th top prospect according to MLB Pipeline, the left-handed swinging product of Seattle, Wash., has also exhibited a strong arm behind the dish, throwing out 37% of would-be base stealers in 271 attempts.

Having thrown a scoreless five innings with the Blue Jays during his first promotion to the Bigs earlier this season, Shafer rejoins the club looking to put an exclamation point on an already impressive campaign. Through 47 games split between double-A New Hampshire and Buffalo, the 25-year-old reliever has posted an ERA 1.13 with 49 strikeouts against 21 walks across 55 2/3 innings.

In Toronto's lineup on Thursday against Cleveland, McGuire is set to become the 61st player used by the Blue Jays this season. For those keeping tabs at home, that's a new franchise record.
