Official Toronto Blue Jays Press Release
The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed RHP Joel Payamps off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Jacob Waguespack has been designated for assignment.
Payamps, 26, spent most of his 2020 campaign at the Arizona Diamondbacks’ alternate training site but made two major league appearances. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound righty was claimed by the Blue Jays from the Red Sox last month, on February 11, before Boston claimed him back 11 days later.
The native of Santiago, D.R., has four career big league appearances under his belt, combining for five strikeouts and three earned runs allowed over seven innings. Payamps was originally signed by the Rockies in 2010 and has gone 41-43 with a 4.15 ERA in 145 minor league games.
