Blue Jays deal Grichuk to Rockies for Tapia

The Toronto Blue Jays have traded outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Colorado Rockies.

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired OF Raimel Tapia and INF Adrian Pinto from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for OF Randal Grichuk and cash considerations.

Tapia, 28, tied for sixth in the National League with a career-high 20 stolen bases last season while batting .273 over 133 games for the Rockies. The native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, signed with Colorado as an international free agent in 2010. Over the course of his six Major League seasons, the 6-foot-3, 175 pound left-handed hitter has hit .280 with 102 extra-base hits and 45 stolen bases.

Pinto, 19, played his first season of professional baseball in 2021, posting a .360 batting average and a 1.029 OPS across 54 contests for the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Rockies. His effort for the season led to a MiLB.com Organizational All-Star nod. The 5-foot-6, 156-pound native of Caucagua, Venezuela, started 35 games at second base, 11 at shortstop, and five in centre field.

Grichuk, 30, hit .241 with 25 doubles, a triple, and 22 home runs for the Blue Jays in 2021. The Rosenberg, Tex., native was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the first round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and joined the Blue Jays in an offseason trade prior to the 2018 season. In his 479 games since joining Toronto, Grichuk has posted a .243 batting average, hit 90 home runs, and collected 257 RBIs. For his career, the 6-foot-2, 216-pound outfielder owns a .765 OPS and has recorded 355 extra-base hits in 883 contests.
