Blue Jays deal Shafer to Reds

The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that RHP Justin Shafer has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash considerations.

Shafer, 27, posted a 3.86 ERA in 34 relief appearances over five stints for the Blue Jays last season, striking out 39 batters in 39 2/3 innings. The 6-2, 195 lb. righty also made 24 appearances for triple-A Buffalo, where he held a 3.52 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP while converting seven of eight save opportunities.

The Lake Wales, Fla., native was selected by the Blue Jays in the 8th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He has accumulated a 3.75 ERA across 40 Major League games and has a 3.82 ERA over the course of six Minor League seasons.
