Removed from the Blue Jays lineup in the third inning of Friday's 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been placed on the Injured List with side effects from a COVID-19 vaccination.

Completing Saturday's transaction, INF Santiago Espinal has claimed Gurriel’s spot on the active roster.

Through 18 games this spring, Espinal slashed .382/.432/.647 with a pair of home runs and nine RBI. In 26 big league games as a rookie in 2020, the 26-year-old native of Santiago, D.R. hit .267 (16-for-60) while drawing four walks in 66 plate appearances.

LHP Ryan Borucki (side effects of COVID-19 vaccine) was also activated off the IL on Saturday. In a corresponding roster move, RHP Ty Tice was optioned back to the club's alternative site.

Through four appearances with Toronto in 2021, Borucki has allowed two runs on one hit, walking a batter and striking out three across 3 1/3 innings of work.
