After spraining his left knee during a 2-3-4-1 rundown in the third inning of Saturday's 10-1 win over the Oakland Athletics, Matt Shoemaker has been placed on the 10-day injured list.

In a corresponding move, INF Richard Urena has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo and will be available during Sunday's series finale at the Coliseum.

Through four games with the Bisons since being optioned on April 13, Urena has slashed .353/.353/.488 with a pair of triples and seven RBIs. In eight games at the MLB level in 2019, the 23-year-old product of San Francisco de Macoris, D.R. has produced an overall OPS of .818 across 27 plate appearances.

Eligible to return on May 1, the severity of Shoemaker's injury is still unknown, and it's unlikely that veteran hurler will rejoin to the active roster before June.

Through five starts with Toronto this season, the 32-year-old right-hander has posted an ERA of 1.57 with 24 strikeouts against nine walks.

For now, we can expect the tandem of Sam Gaviglio and Thomas Pannone to assume a good share of Shoemaker's missed innings until LHP Clayton Richard (knee) is ready to come off the IL.
