In advance of their attempt to sweep the New York Yankees for the first time since June of 2016, the Toronto Blue Jays have placed 1B/DH Rowdy Tellez on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain.
OF Billy McKinney was subsequently called up from the team's taxi squad and will assume Tellez's spot on the active roster.
Having undergone an MRI on Wednesday, Tellez sustained the injury after stepping on a soft spot near the visiting team's bullpen in yesterday's 2-1 win over the Bombers ar Sahlen Field.
In 35 games with Toronto this season, the former 30th-round draft pick has slashed .283/.346/.540 with 13 extra-base hits across 127 plate appearances. Those totals include a five-game set that saw him hit .563 (9-for-16) with a pair of home runs against Boston last weekend.
Recalled for the third time since the season began on July 24, McKinney has notched a pair of hits in three big league at-bats in 2020. Through parts of three seasons in the Show, the left-handed swinging product of Dallas, Texas, has hit .231 with an OPS of .728.
